Die beiden deutschen Produktionen Desperados 3 und Through the Darkest of Times waren für die The Game Awards 2020 nominiert.

Update vom 11. Dezember 2020: The Last of Us Part 2 ist der große Abräumer bei den The Game Awards 2020: Der PS4-Exklusivtitel von Sony Interactive und Naughty Dog holt sieben Preise, darunter Game of the Year, Best Game Direction und Best Narrative.

Mit G2 Esports wurde ein Berliner Unternehmen als bestes E-Sport-Team ausgezeichnet. Für die weiteren Hoffnungsträger aus Deutschland und Österreich hat es in diesem Jahr zwar nicht gereicht – analog zu den Film-Oscars stellt aber bereits die Nominierung eine bemerkenswerte Auszeichnung dar.

Update vom 10. Dezember 2020: In wenigen Stunden gilt’s: In der Nacht von Donnerstag auf Freitag (ab 1 Uhr morgens deutscher Zeit) werden die The Game Awards 2020 verliehen. Daumen drücken heißt es unter anderem für die deutschen Studios Mimimi Games (Desperados 3) und Paintbucket Games (The Darkest of Times), die in diesem Jahr nominiert sind.

Abseits von Preisträgern, musikalischen Einlagen und Danksagungen werden auch prominente Laudatoren wie Inception-Regisseur Christopher Nolan, Matrix-Star Keanu Reeves und Uncharted-Darsteller Tom Holland erwartet. Außerdem soll es eine ganze Reihe von Weltpremieren und weiterer Ankündigungen geben.

Meldung vom 22. November 2020: Wenige Wochen vor der Verleihung der The Game Awards am 10. Dezember 2020 haben die Organisatoren die Namen der Nominierten bekannt gegeben. Analog zu den Film-Oscars werden insbesondere auch die einzelnen Gewerke besonders gewürdigt, etwa die „Best Performance“ für Motion-Capturing-Darsteller.

Zu den Favoriten zählen in diesem Jahr – wenig überraschend – unter anderem Sonys PlayStation-4-Exklusiv-Produktionen The Last of Us Part 2 und Ghost of Tsushima.

Unter den Kandidaten für die begehrten Auszeichnungen finden sich in diesem Jahr auch mehrere deutsche Studios, darunter der Münchener Entwickler Mimimi Games (Desperados 3) und das Berliner Studio Paintbucket Games (Through the Darkest of Times).

Veranstaltet, produziert und moderiert werden die The Game Awards von Geoff Keighley, der in gleicher Funktion auch die Gamescom-Eröffnungs-Show Gamescom: Opening Night Live betreut. Die Vorauswahl wurde von einer internationalen Jury bestehend aus Medienhäusern und Influencern getroffen – die deutschen Stimmen kommen von Bild, GamePro, GameStar, Gameswelt und PC Games.

Über die Preisträger entscheidet das Publikum: Ab sofort kann für die Favoriten abgestimmt werden.
