Update vom 9. Dezember 2022: Vor wenigen Stunden ist in Los Angeles die Verleihung der The Game Awards über die Bühne gegangen – wie immer flankiert von Trailern und ‚Weltpremieren‘ (Aufzeichnung).

Top-Favorit ist der Sony-Blockbuster God of War Ragnarök: Der PlayStation-Hersteller darf sich außerdem mit Horizon: Forbidden West gute Chancen ausrechnen. Stärkster Konkurrent: das Rollenspiel Elden Ring von From Software.
The Game Awards 2022: Die Nominierten
Meldung vom 15. November 2022: Mehr als 100 Journalisten großer Medienhäuser entscheiden über die Nominierungen der The Game Awards – so auch in diesem Jahr. Das letzte Wort haben nun die Endverbraucher, die auf verschiedenen Kanälen für ihre Favoriten abstimmen können.
Am 8. Dezember (beziehungsweise am 9. Dezember ab 1:30 Uhr deutscher Zeit) wird dann die Verleihung der The Game Awards 2022 live aus dem Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles auf allen führenden Social-Media-Plattformen übertragen – moderiert von Geoff Keighley. Wie in den Vorjahren ist auch bei dieser Gelegenheit wieder mit Überraschungs-Auftritten von Hollywood-Größen und prominenten Spieledesignern sowie Games-Ankündigungen zu rechnen.
Für die Hauptkategorie ‚Spiel des Jahres‘ sind Elden Ring (Bandai Namco), Horizon: Forbidden West (Sony), God of War Ragnarök (Sony), Stray (Annapurna Interactive), A Plague Tale: Requiem (Focus) und Nintendos Xenoblade Chronicles 3 nominiert. Das erst am vergangenen Mittwoch erschienene PlayStation-Action-Abenteuer God of War Ragnarök führt mit 10 Nominierungen die Liste an, gefolgt von Horizon: Forbidden West und Elden Ring mit jeweils sieben Einträgen.
Mitfiebern darf auch ein Publisher aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum: Denn die Giebelstädter THQ-Nordic-Tochter HandyGames ist mit Endling: Extinction is Forever in der Kategorie ‚Games for Impact‘ nominiert – also bei jenen Produkten, die abseits der reinen Unterhaltung auch noch eine Botschaft vermitteln.
