The video game market plays an important role in the creative and cultural industries in Germany. In the same year, Germany imported video game consoles and devices worth EUR 2.1 billion. Also the Italian video game industry shows a clear growth trend. With a revenue of EUR 2.2 billion in 2022, it is a significant industry. The sector showed a growth of 50 % in comparison to the previous year, with more than 2.400 employees working in 160 companies.
On a worldwide level, it is also estimated that revenues in the video game market will rise this year: Global revenues for 2022, for example, are estimated at almost EUR 314 billion, of which 71.5 %, or EUR 224.3 billion, will be for mobile games. This year, international revenues are expected to increase to EUR 348 billion, with the mobile games segment leading the way with EUR 259.1 billion.
These figures illustrate the significant role the video game industry plays in the global economy. In the coming years, between 2023 and 2027, the annual growth rate of the video game industry is estimated at 7.9 %, with a projected market volume of around EUR 472 billion by 2027. The impressive 3.1 billion users will help the industry to keep growing and gain a large following worldwide.
Globally, the largest share of revenues in 2023 is expected to be generated by China, which contributes an estimated EUR 98.6 billion to the global gaming market. However, other countries, such as Italy, also play an important role and contribute to the growth of the video game industry with their innovative ideas and developments.
